Mohawks win trophy at Budapest's October Fast 2022

At the 20. In October, the men of the Nagold Mohawks traveled to Budapest for the “October Fast Tournament”.. Against 2 Teams from Hungary and a team from Slovakia lay 3 Days of baseball in front of the Nagolder team.

Baseball is back – Men come out of the winter/corona break strengthened

Baseball – 1. More – Cup … an almost traditional ritual.

The anticipation of the first official game of the season was great. The league competitor Bretten Kangaroos invited to the cup game. And the Mohawks can look back positively on the last few months. Reinforced by newcomers, coach Frieder Häfele was able to draw on almost everything.

And the Mohawks start furiously – After the first control problems with the guest pitcher, it was Chris Laimer who immediately pushed the ball over the fence in the first round with the first at-bat and bases-loaded – GRAND SLAM. Coach Häfele took the opportunity to give every player who had traveled there early match practice. After just two innings, relief pitcher and newcomer Tobias Müllmeier switched to the mount. Keep on going – Students too busy with themselves

On the second match day of the student state league Gr. 2 our young Mohawks had a guest performance at the SG Bretten Kangaroos / Ladenburg Romans in Ladenburg. Mit den Erfahrungen aus den Spielen gegen die Wanderers wollte man heute an die Leistungen anknüpfen.

Unter der Leitung von Coach Simon Mohr und seinem Staff versuchten die Schüler sich die “Reisestrapazen” nicht anmerken zu lassen. Doch leider fehlten schon beim Aufwärmen Konzentration und die nötige Spannung.

Dementsprechend begann auch das erste Spiel. Es gelang unseren U12ern nicht, zählbares nach Hause zu bringen. Sichtlich unzufrieden waren auch die Spieler nach vergebenen Chancen und eigentlich einfachen Bällen. Ein Strike Out, ein guter Run um sich in Position zu bringen – leider vergeblich.

Einige Wechsel während des ersten Spiels brachten nicht den nötigen Erfolg. Somit mühte sich unser Team mehr an sich selbst, als an den Romans aus Ladenburg ab. Es wäre mehr drin gewesen, konstatierten auch die mitgereisten Zuschauer.

In der Pause zum zweiten Spiel beschließen die Coaches auf mehreren Positionen zu wechseln. Die Mohawks brauchten neue Impulse.

Zu Beginn merkte man nicht wirklich, dass unsere Schüler etwas entgegen zu setzen hätten – bis zum zweiten Inning.

Ein paar gute Aktionen hatten unsere Mohawks, unter anderem durch Ilyas Güdü der durch den Wechsel von Right-Field auf die First Base sichtlich aufblühte. Geschickt hat er in seiner ersten Aktion gleich für ein Out des Gegners gesorgt.

Das Team feierte diese Aktion wie einen Punktgewinn. Ab diesem Moment war klar zu spüren, dass die Mohawks noch an sich glaubten.

Die Jungs um Julia Hiller (noch einziges Mädchen im Team) schafften es doch noch zwei Punkte bei den Romans zu holen.

José Schwenger schaffte es mit einem geschickten Schlag ins Infield die Romans so mit sich zu beschäftigen, dass Luki Gauss und Julia Hiller zwei Ehrenpunkte erzielten.

Nach Spielende waren unsere Schüler sichtlich unzufrieden. Der heutige Spieltag hat den Mohawks aufgezeigt, dass sie noch viel Arbeit vor sich haben. Heute fehlten unter anderem die Konzentration und der Teamgeist um Brauchbares mitzunehmen.

In den kommenden Trainingseinheiten wird an diesen Themen weiter gearbeitet, resümierte das Trainer-Team.

All new beginnings are difficult – first game of the season for the students

There was anticipation at the start of the season for the newly formed Nagold Mohawks U12 team at Herrenberg Wanderers, Aufregung und Nervosität sichtlich spürbar.

Jedoch blieb es leider auch bei diesen beiden Punkten im ersten Spiel. Die Wanderers konnten mit ihrer Erfahrung das erste Spiel mit 17-2 decide for themselves.

Nach einer kurzen Pause und mentalem Zuspruch der zahlreich mitgereisten Eltern an die Schüler konnten die Mohawks zeigen, dass sie durchaus in der Lage sind ihre Fähigkeiten auf den Platz zu bringen.

Coach Mohr rotierte nach und nach seine Ersatzspieler ein. Somit war das Team in der Lage den Wanderers durchaus weh zu tun. With a, aus Sicht der Mohawks erfolgreicherem Spiel 2, endete auch dieses Spiel mit einem Sieg der Herrenberger mit 12-8.

Nach dem Spiel sammelten sich die Mohawks nochmals um Revue passieren zu lassen.

Der Coach und sein Staff bescheinigten ihrem Team eine sehr gute Leistung, zeigten aber auch gleichzeitig auf, dass noch viel Arbeit im taktischen wie auch im technischen Bereich in den kommenden Wochen auf sie zu komme.

Die Mohawks gehen nun mit voller Motivation und Freude in die nächste Trainings Woche um dann kommenden Sonntag gegen die SG Bretten/Ladenburg wieder zu zeigen, dass sie Willens sind Punkte mit nach Hause zu bringen.

Last Sunday, the 06. September 2020 war es endlich soweit – fliegende Baseballs und der Geruch von frischen Burgern schwebte in der Luft – die Nagolder Baseballer durften das erste Mal in 2020 offiziellen Ligabetrieb ausrichten.

Alles ist anders in 2020 – weniger Mannschaften, weniger Ligen und somit auch „nur“ eine Bezirksliga-Saison in der Spielgemeinschaft Nagold Mohawks/Herrenberg Wanderers. Die eigene Mannschaft der Mohawks konnte aufgrund fehlender Ligameldungen nicht an den Start gehen. Und somit waren zu dieser aufgrund durch die Corona-Pandemie stark verkürze und im Turniermodus zuspielende Saison die Ligakonkurrenten aus Bühl und Heidelberg in Nagold zu Gast.

Spiel 1 eröffnete die Spielgemeinschaft gegen die Bühl Blackwoods. Gemäß Spielplan als Gast-Team geführt, startete die Offensive der Nagolder/Herrenberger furios. 6 Hits und 8 Runs setzen zu Beginn ein deutliches Zeichen. Und nach dem die Bühl Blackwoods im Gegenzug lediglich 2 Runs nachlegten, war der geneigte Zuschauer fast schon von einer Vorentscheidung ausgegangen. Aber bereits im 2. Inning war von der Offensivkraft nicht mehr viel übrig. Only 2 Runs legte die Spielgemeinschaft oben drauf, während Bühl aufgrund einiger Freiläufe (Walks) durch den Starting Pitcher Alexander Kwiring (Nagold) auf 6:10 Runs verkürzen konnte.

Die Innings drei und vier waren für beide Seiten ohne Zählbares und aufgrund der im Turniermodus eingeführten Zeitbeschränkung von 2 Stunden ging es in das fünfte und letzte Inning. Und die Spielgemeinschaft konnte vorlegen. Eine Serie von 5 Hits ermöglichte 4 Runnern weitere Punkte zu machen und somit einen komfortable 8 Runs-Vorsprung ins letzte Halbinning aufzubauen. Aber Bühl wollte keines Wegs aufgeben und erwiderte mit weiten Schlägen auf den mittlerweile werfenden Hannes Großmann (Nagold) die Punkte-Rally. Doch Großmann behielt letztlich die Nerven und rettete sich mit 2 Strikeouts und einem Flyout selbst aus der Situation.

Am Ende stand ein schönes Spiel mit einigen tollen Spielzügen und einem 10:14-Sieg für die Spielgemeinschaft Nagold/Herrenberg.

Im anschließenden Spiel 2 standen sich die Heidelberg Hedgehogs und Bühl Blackwoods gegenüber. Und wieder war es die Gastmannschaft die einen Start nach Maß hinlegte. 7 Hits in Folge führte zu 5 Runs. Heidelberg wiederum gelang es erst im 3. Innings auf die Anzeigetafel zu kommen, dafür aber mit Schwung. Ganze 8 Runs verkürzte das Spiel auf zwischenzeitlich 8:10 Runs. Aber Bühl blieb nicht tatenlos und punkte kontinuierlich weiter. In jedem Innings gelang mindestens 1 Runs, so dass am Ende ein verdienter 8:14-Erfolg gefeiert werden konnte.

Im letzte Spiel des Tages durften dann die Hausherren (dieses Mal auch als Heim-Mannschaft) gegen die Heidelberger wieder ran. Für die Spielgemeinschaft auf dem Mound startete Marius Nöther (Nagold) der im ersten Durchgang mit zwei Strikeouts bei Bases Loaded für Heidelberg die ersten Runs verhindern konnte. Im Anschluss zeigten die Spieler der Spielgemeinschaft ein gutes Auge. Dem Gäste-Werfer gelang es nur selten einen Ball in die Strike-Zone zu werfen, so dass auch nach einem Pitcher-Wechsel im ersten Inning bereits 9 Runs meist durch Freiläufe (Walks) zu Buche standen. Und die Nagold/Herrenberg-Verbindung Punkte fortwährend, unterdessen gelang den Gästen aus Heidelberg zwar immer wieder Runner in Scoring Position zu bringen – der Runs blieb aber letztlich verwehrt.

Zu Beginn des vierten Innings (Spielstand 17:0) stand das vorzeitige Spielende aufgrund der Mercy-Rule (15 Runs nach 4 gespielten Innings im Raum). 3 Runs benötigten die Gäste und Dank einer Hit-Serie gelang ihnen diese Lebenszeichen auch. Das mit dem Heimrecht verbunden „Nachschlagen“ ermöglichte dann der Spielgemeinschaft aber mit einem Run das Spiel vorzeitig zu beenden. Und es war Frieder Häfele, der mit einem Walk-Off-Hit-by-Pitch bei gefüllten Bases diesen Punkt heimbrachte und einen ungefährdeten 18:3-Erfolg für die Spielgemeinschaft ermöglichte.

Damit steht die Spielgemeinschaft mit 2 Siegen auf Platz eins vor Bühl und Schlusslicht Heidelberg. Das nächste Turnier findet am 20. September 2020 in Heidelberg statt.
